Hey all :)

I bought a new monitor from Wal Mart last week to spice up the air traffic controlling that I do on VATSIM.

Check it out… in full swing.

Space Shuttle Launch

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

March 15th, 2009

On my way to pick up my friend at the Orlando airport, the space shuttle launched from the Kennedy Space Center. I was pretty close to the launch area (20 miles… I think) when the rocket took off.

Here’s a quick video. Audio is an archived MCO feed from LiveATC.

Trip to Atlanta!

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Wow! What a great weekend!

For the holiday weekend, I took a road trip to Atlanta, Georgia to do a limited job shadow at the Atlanta air traffic control tower (check out their NATCA website).

I checked into the Best Western hotel with a room that had a great view overlooking the approach ends of runways 26L and 26R and the control tower. I could really see a lot of action!

I ended up spending about six hours in the tower. A huge thanks goes out to the nice guy that got me into the tower and let me plug in and watch everyone work. I saw and learned a lot, if you have any specific questions… please ask! Here’s a small video and a photo gallery to check out. Thanks!

Back to Florida

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Finally, back to Florida. I almost didn’t think I was going to make it back! I had a great, busy time in Juneau and I loved being there, but I’m glad to be back in sunny Florida.

My flight out of Juneau was in a ground delay for about two hours… but I still made it to Seattle in time to make my Orlando flight!

Here are some pictures from my two Alaska Airlines flights as well as a video and some audio clips below. Check ‘em out!

Here’s a video, with ATC, of our approach into Seattle’s new runway. The video quality is a little poor, but you can see the American Airlines 737 that flew an approach for the parallel runway 16L. Thanks to Rae for editing the audio from liveATC.

Here is audio from our Alaska Airlines flight 10 from Seattle to Orlando. Thanks to Rae for editing the audio from liveATC.

ATC Simulator Video

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

I just got done with a great simulation of New York TRACON with KEWR and KJFK activated and over 100 arrivals. Enjoy this video with some silly narration by yours truly!

Thanks!

I apologize that the cursor isn’t showing in the video! I thought that it was, but I was wrong…

N90 on ATC Simulator 2

N90 on ATC Simulator 2

ATC Simulator 2 is my new addiction. I recently shelled out the money to purchase the software and I have enjoyed every penny of it. Aside from the abnormal download and installation on Windows Vista, this program is amazing. The benefits of the program make any installation frustration worth it. I highly recommend it for anyone that’s interested in air traffic control. You can start out with slow scenarios in simple airspace, and build your way up to something more complex. One of the coolest features of the software is when you can review your errors after quitting a simulation. It will give you a rating and let you know what you need to review and work on for the next time you sit down to control.

In the screenshot above, I was working New York TRACON with Newark and John F. Kennedy airports enabled with a scenario that would have included 100 arrivals. I couldn’t handle the full simulation; I quit shortly after I took this screenshot.

Some might refer to this as a game, but as Chip Barber wrote in his review, it’s nothing like a game. It’s an addicting, realistic simulation that’ll keep you going for hours!

My roomie poked fun at me one day after I got up from an hour of fast, speedy typing to the fake aircraft on my screen. I got up and took a big sigh of relief and yelled at how great the simulation was!
